Lean Concrete: The Ideal Mix for Sub-Foundations

Lean concrete (or "magrone") is a concrete variant characterized by a low cement content. Due to its cost-effectiveness, it is primarily used as a leveling layer, for filling excavations, or for creating clean working surfaces (sub-foundations).

Composition and Dosage (1-3-5-1 Rule)

Although not intended for structural purposes, proper mixing is essential. A standard proportion to obtain good lean concrete is as follows:

  • 1 part Cement
  • 3 parts Sand
  • 5 parts Gravel, crushed stone, or vermiculite
  • 1 part Water

Technical note: This layer serves to protect the metal reinforcement of the actual foundations from direct contact with the soil and moisture, preventing oxidation.
