Calculating the cat's age in human years: how to do it

1. Calculate how old your cat is. This will be easy if the cat in question has been with you since it was born. Otherwise, your veterinarian will be able to estimate the age of your cat based on the analysis of its teeth and other parts of the body. But beware, sometimes even the vet may find it difficult as cats, especially if in good health, are able to hide their age very well, so animals of 14 or 15 years can be even seven years younger.
2. Your cat develops physically and sexually within the first 12 months of life. A human being reaches this point at around 15 years of age. So one year of age of the cat corresponds to the age of 15 for men.
3. When your cat turns two, add 9 years. Your 2-year-old cat therefore has the maturity of a 24-year-old person.
4. After the first 2 years of a cat's life, each feline year will be equivalent to approximately 4 human years. So a 3 year old cat will be the equivalent of a 28 year old man; a cat of 4 of a man of 32, and so on (see conversion tables).
