Today's felines are part of the fissipid carnivores, seven families located almost all over the world.

Felids are made up of various genera, which differ according to the author of the classification.


In this type of classification the genus "felis" includes several species, which do not include the "felis cattus", that is the common domestic cat, which is considered to belong to the genus "felis silvestris"
