In cats, as in the rest of mammals, lung ventilation is improved compared to to that present in other classes of invertebrates.

In fact, through the diaphragmatic and intercostal musculature there is the presence of active breathing, followed by a passive exhalation. The two phases can also follow each other with high frequency.
