The gate valves or shut-off valves are the main "taps" of the hydraulic systems that intercept the water from the aqueduct's large diameter pipes.
They open and close the flow of water through a metal plate operated by a command, which is why they are called sluices.
They are usually placed upstream of the meter.
They are used:
-
on adduction pipelines and drinking water distribution networks
-
on irrigation networks
-
on fire networks
-
in water treatment plants
-
in pumping stations
-
in tanks (hydraulic circuit).
