This respiratory tree disease is characterized by cough, fever and anorexia, up to the development of pneumonia caused by bacterial agents of secondary irruption.
Kennel cough is especially common in places where several animals live in poor hygienic conditions, such as kennels, pet shops or training centers.
The main source of contagion are the infected aerosol particles emitted through coughing.
Symptoms begin with a mild fever, with a dry cough but if secondary bacterial complications occur, the cough becomes oily due to the phlegm that is produced. The course varies from 2-3 weeks.
Sick dog should be kept in a warm, dry, clean and well ventilated place and fresh and clean water should be ensured.
Nutrition during convalescence
Food must be easily digestible and preparations prescribed by a veterinarian must be used to fight bacterial infections. To avoid epidemics, specific vaccine complexes for this type of infection should be used.
